Placemat Games
The Dark Imp placemat games are now available! The placemats come in pads of 50 sheets and are double-sided – one game on each side. All you need to play is three dice and a pen. The rules for each game are on the placemat.
You can play either game with any number of people. Play is simultaneous so there’s no downtime. You can even play via videoconference if you want to.
There are bulk discounts available for schools who want to send placemats out to learners. We can invoice schools and provide dice if necessary. Get in touch.

Mix96 Radio
On Friday, I was interviewed by Ben Mosely and Nia Visser on the Mix96 Breakfast Show.
We talked about why I love games so much, the benefits of playing board games as a family, recommendations for family games, solo games for self-isolators and Dark Imp games.
Listen by clicking the play button on the left.
Boardgames with Bez
This week, I’ve also recorded an episode of Boardgames with Bez with the host, Bez Shahriari. Bez has previously shared her 8 games for 8 different occasions on The Dark Imp Blog. The topic for the show is ‘Can board games give us purpose?’ We also talked about playing games online in the lockdown, why board games are beneficial for mental health and… bananas.
The show is live streamed on Bunkazilla online radio today, Saturday 28th March at 7pm and Monday 30th March at 3pm. Listen here.

Interview with Metro
I had a long interview with Metro, who are writing a profile on me for the paper. It will be part of their Tips from the Top series. We talked about how I started in board game design, what the high points and low points have been, mistakes I have made and advice I’d give to people starting out. The article is due to be published in print and online on Monday 6th April, so do keep an eye out. I’ll also link to it from this blog.
Don’t forget
- Every Tuesday at 4pm during school closures we are running online board game sessions for families. Register here (it’s free). Our first session, which was earlier this week, went really well.
- We’ve created a page of board game resources for families in isolation, so do have a look… you might find something useful.
It’s great to see loads of schools sharing these resources with parents in weekly newsletters and through school websites.
