I present a show on Teacher Hug Radio called The Game School. It’s a show about all sorts of tabletop games and how to use them for teaching and learning.
There’s a new episode every two weeks. Listeners in the UK can tune in live through the Teacher Hug website or through the Teacher Hug App (apple or android). The show is usually on at 6pm on Saturdays and then again at 12pm on Sundays. The show is repeated at different times before and after school during the following week. There’s also a growing selection of episodes available for listeners around the world through Listen Again.
The pencil & paper game ‘Art Director’
Dan Finkel on improving teachers’ confidence in maths
Each hour-long episode contains discussion on topics related to board games for education, game reviews, games you can play in school tomorrow and interviews with guests from the world of education and board games. I shared clips of past shows in a previous blog. But on this page, you can find several short clips from more recent shows. If you’ve not listened in yet, please add the live show to your diary, or bookmark the listen again page.
On 4th December I was joined by Dan Finkel for a fascinating discussion about the place of games and puzzles in the teaching of maths. This was an extended interview and the whole show is well worth your time on listen again. Dan is an authority on maths teaching and a maths game designer.
For The Game School Christmas Special, I talked to Gavin & Sara Jayne Jones, who review family games on their blog. It was a bumper review episode packed with our favourite games to recommend for families.
We talked about games to play with 6+, 8+ and also the games we were really looking forward to playing with older children and other adults.
In this clip, Gavin talks about the wonderful dexterity game, Meeple Circus.

Episodes of The Game School are repeated every day for 2 weeks and then about half of them go onto the listen again Box Set.
